Same-Day Crowns: A Modern, Unexpected Approach To Routine Treatment

Willow Creek Dentistry is well-versed in providing both routine services and the unexpected! In fact, Drs. Chris Calnon, Scott Koopman, and Molly Hatala are transforming the experience of tooth reconstruction with same-day crowns.

Happy young couple

What are same-day crowns?

Our dentists have invested in the technologies and training to handle every part of the crown process in-house, at our office in Rochester, New York. We often don’t have to rely on an outside lab to make your crown. So, you can get your crown faster and with less hassle than the traditional process.

How do you make crowns?

The process goes something like this:

  • Your damaged tooth is prepared. We remove the tissue that can’t be “saved.” The tooth is also sterilized and reshaped to “accept” the crown that will be placed on it later.
  • We use advanced imaging techniques to capture 3D, high-resolution images of your tooth and surrounding teeth. This approach eliminates the need for goopy, messy, uncomfortable manual impressions.
  • Drs Calnon, Koopman, and Hatala use this information and special software to design your crown.
  • This 3-Dimensional model/design is sent to our onsite milling machine, which fabricates the crown from a block of the highest-quality dental ceramic.
  • The crown is cemented to your tooth, and minor adjustments may be made at this time as well. There is no need to wear a temporary crown, because we deliver the permanent crown to you in one simple visit!

How does this compare to the traditional crown process?

Traditionally, it takes several weeks to get your permanent crown. This is because the crown must be made outside of the office by a lab. The process of fabricating permanent crowns can take weeks, during which you wear a temporary crown. The temporary crown is not as strong as a permanent crown and is more prone to fracture. It requires at least two visits to get a crown, with additional visits if the permanent crown needs to be remade by the lab or if your temporary crown breaks while waiting for the lab. We consolidate the process into one visit for your comfort and convenience.

Are same-day crowns as good as traditional crowns?

This advanced, computer-aided process gives Willow Creek Dentistry ultimate control over the quality of your crown and your experience. Patients trust that our independently owned and operated practice uses only the most durable and attractive materials to build your crown, as well as the most precise techniques in designing and fabricating it. By leveraging sophisticated digital technologies, we also minimize human errors often associated with manual processes. Our crowns are built to last, as long as you partner with us to keep them in top condition. Maintain hygiene appointments at our office in Rochester, NY, and be consistent and thorough when brushing and flossing.
