How are dental sealants placed?
Sealants are applied to clean, dry teeth in liquid form. Drs. Calnon, Koopman or Hatala will use a brush to apply the sealant to the chewing surfaces of the molars (or premolars, as needed). The liquid seeps into these pits and fissures. A dental curing light is used to harden the liquid. The entire process is completely non-invasive, painless, and takes just a few minutes per tooth.
How long do sealants last?
Sealants can last for several years. There are steps you or your child can take to prevent premature wear and tear. By maintaining good brushing and flossing habits and getting fitted with a nightguard for bruxism (chronic teeth grinding), patients get the most out of their sealants. Our dentists also regularly check the condition of sealants during routine hygiene visits.
